Tips To Try at Home
Getting Personal with the Greenfeet.com Team
Here are a few of our favorite tips you can try at home.
Simple Honey Cleanser
Here's a recipe for a simple, yet effective daily face cleanser using honey. For normal skin choose Clover honey, for combination/oily choose Orange Blossom. Simply wet face with warm water. Take a face cloth, wet and apply approximately 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply to skin working gently in circular motions. Rinse with tepid to warm water. That's it! Honey is naturally anti-bacterial and is a natural humectant. If you eat a little along the way, that's ok too!
General Moisturizer for All Skin Types
Jojoba oil is the golden child of moisturizers. Jojoba is actually a liquid wax, not an oil. It comes from the Jojoba bean and its "oil" most closely resembles human sebum (our own skin's oil that's produced in youth). The bodily readily absorbs it and few have negative reactions to jojoba. Jojoba does not block pores.
To use: Take a few drops and apply to a damp face as you would any other moisturizer to face, neck or body (key: apply to a `damp face as the water helps the jojoba to absorb into the skin faster) The jojoba helps to trap the water in the skin acting as a humectant. To personalize your moisturizer, you can add a few drops of essential oil such as a drop of tea tree for combination/troubled skin, sandalwood for mature skin or lavender for normal skin.
Avocado and Buttermilk Mask
This quick, simple mask leaves skin velvety soft!
Mash together ¼ of a very ripe avocado and enough buttermilk to create a creamy paste. (take the rest and make guacamole) Apply to face and throat in upward strokes. If possible, take a few minutes and lay in the sun to allow the avocado to warm and penetrate the skin. Enjoy your guacamole with a few organic tortilla chips. Rinse face with tepid to warm water after 20-30 minutes.
