| Do You Know What's In Your Paint? |
 |
|
Are you planning on painting a room (or two) in your
house this summer? Before you do, take a moment to
consider what's in the paint you use. You might be
surprised by how many chemicals are in conventional
household paints, and by how toxic those chemicals are
to the human body. Chemicals like benzene and
formaldehyde, found in most convntional paints, are
known carcinogens, and can also cause a host of other
health problems.

| Low VOC and No VOC Paint Alternatives |
 |
|
There are plenty of good alternatives to those toxic,
conventional paints -- including Low-VOC and No-VOC
paints. (VOCs are "volatile organic chemicals" --
chemicals that become breathable gases at room
temperature, such as benzene, tolulene, vinyl chloride,
formaldehyde, ethyl and mercury.) These lower-VOC
paints are much easier to find today than they were a
few years ago. And in general, they are comparably
priced, and perform just as well as high-VOC household
paints.

| Be DEET Free AND Mosquito Free! |
 |
|
No one likes mosquitoes - the bite itches, some people
have allergic reactions and of course there's the threat
of illness such as West Nile Virus.
For years, it has been recommended to use DEET based
repellents. While DEET is effective at repelling
mosquitoes, it's use doesn't come without a price.
While we believe that most poison reactions to DEET
probably go
unreported, nearly 5,000 DEET-related cases are
reported each year to the Center For Disease Control.
Over the years, there have been reported deaths from
the use of DEET based insect repellents
in both
children and adults and nearly all sources recommend
that you avoid using an insect repellent
containing DEET on babies and small children.
Consider trying an all-natural insect repellent such as
Herbal Armor. It's an effective, safe alternative for the
entire family. We've been using it for years and while
it's not bullet-proof it does an excellent job of keeping
skeeters at bay. Give it a whirl and let us know what
you think.
